The Story

We are the original and only owners and thought we’d share a few things we love about this house, this neighborhood, and the city of McKinney. We purchased this house when it was just an empty lot, so we were able to add some personal touches such as adding stone on the exterior and installing electrical outlets in the eaves around the outside for use with security, holiday lights, and installing a sink in the garage workspace.
Our son grew up in this house and for many years had the upstairs front bedroom. He loved having the extra “closet” in that room and used it as his secret fort and reading nook. He had a little ladder that he used to climb to get inside. It was also just a great place to keep toys. While the backyard isn’t huge, we had lots of good times there, with everything from a wooden playset to a trampoline to a raised bed garden that provided a wealth of delicious tomatoes. We added the arbor about 2 years ago and now enjoy just visiting or eating a meal under the lights and cover.
When we made the decision to move 23 years ago, we were immediately drawn to McKinney with its unique shops and restaurants in the historic downtown area along with growing communities and nationally recognized schools. We fell in love with Stonebridge Ranch because of the beautifully
maintained spaces and wonderful amenities. We’ve made great use of the 2 community pools and the many parks and trails. Some of our favorite memories were summers spent at the Beach Club swimming and building sandcastles with friends and date nights at “Evening on the Veranda”
concerts. There was (and is) always something to do as a single, a couple, or a family.
The park and schools right behind the house were a blessing to us and we think would be for any family. With the nice Texas weather, there were only a handful of days that we couldn’t walk to school (a little trick to reassure mom’s heart is that you can see the kids get to school from the upstairs
window). When our son was young, we put miles on his stroller walking through the park and watching the turtles, fish, and birds at the pond. As he got older, he could easily go meet friends at the park or school playground. Some have asked about noise from the school…we have not had any issues. There are a few special events during the school year held in the parking lot where you might hear a little music or children’s
voices, but only if you are outside and it is not objectionable.
One of the things that we still love about McKinney is that even with the tremendous growth, we believe that McKinney has been able to keep the small-town feel with the many activities and events throughout the year. We will carry the memories from time in the parades and the different holiday
events. This is a safe, quiet community while still centrally located with easy access to major highways.
We hate to leave this home and area, but life is calling us on a different path.
